Bullshit. That's how we sold it. Vietnam was about containing the Soviet Union. Pure power considerations prevailed. It had nothing to do with the welfare of the Vietnamese people, or do you think we had to destroy that country to save it?

Same in Afghanistan, where we withdrew after the Soviet withdrawal and sat passively--under Bush I and Clinton--while it degenerated into the Taliban-Al Qaida haven that spawned 9/11.

Your good intentions continue to pave the road to hell for our involuntary experiments in democracy.
