Just the very fact Kerry would offer it to McCain is a big plus for Kerry's campaign. Remember, that Kerry has moved squarely to the center. He isn't even trying to be loved by everyone, just be acceptable. He knows as a national candidate he no longer just represents liberals or democrats, but everyone except the far right whom he knows won't cooperate no matter what, and need to be driven out of power.

If Kerry can successfully capture the center he will win. And so far so good. Even if McCain isn't his running mate he will end up more powerful as the broker to the White House. BTW: the rightwing "flip-flop" charge against Kerry really just means one thing, Kerry has left behind his old liberal positions and moved to the center. But he didn't just do it this year, he's been making that move for the last ten years. Therefore Kerry hasn't "flipped" at all he's just done what the Republicans fear the most, driven Bush to the right and trapped him there. Now for Bush to move to the center he'd have to start agreeing with Kerry on everything. LOL
