If that is the case, then he must believe that he can campaign better without his running mate. Does not seem like a good idea - deliberately taking the second most visible campaign voice out of the stump process. No one has ever done that in my memory. Could it be that the identified VP is not his first choice and the compromise is to keep the VP nominee pigeon-holed until late in the run so the media etc. will have less time to scrutinze the VP? Not every VP is as charismatic as the Presidential candidate. On the other hand, maybe some are more charismatic. Nader hasn't announced his VP either. But that is less important at this stage.
