The AP and Guardian reports are the only independent western accounts, because all the US journalists are afraid to leave Baghdad. Those accounts have detail, consistency, multiple independent eyewitness accounts and supportive video. guardian.co.uk nytimes.com Unless the Guardian reporter (Rory McCarthy), the AP reporter, and the camera crew are all throwing away their careers by creating a huge fiction here, it is almost impossible for me to believe their stories are not substantially true. The US military and the people in Washington have a great deal to lose politically and morally by having another My Lai show up right now. I believe they are covering it up with the "big lie" approach. We certainly know by now that the US military have digital cameras... where is the video shot by the US ground troops to back up their claims? Why hasn't the US military simply asked the survivors what happened? Or talked to the reporters? This is not far-fetched. It is widely accepted that My Lai was not an isolated incident, it was just the one that got caught.
