nspolar.

((Vietnam worked itself out. Not too cleanly but it did.))

Umm, not so sure if I was from Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam I would concur with that statement. These 3 countries suffered 4 million dead. And things "worked itself out"? Boy, doesn't exactly inspire confidence that things will "work themselves out" this time 'round.

((I have read a lot of war history which has involved politics of various sorts. No other country in this world has as good of a record as we do, re morality and those kinds of things. Not even close. We have some blemishes today re Iraq and this prisoner business, but I have a lot of faith in our system and its ability to cleanse itself and move on.))

I don't mean to be meanspirited or judgmental, but I think your reading of history may be somewhat superficial. Or put another way, there's a "deeper" layer of history that usually underlies "official" narratives of history. Unfortunately, you tend not to learn such storylines in the U.S. educational system and news media from what I can ascertain.

Just M2C on the matter.
