Acccording to Molly Ivins, writing in 2000, Bush did seek out Billy Graham as he was quitting drinking, and make some kind of committment to Jesus Christ, but it may have been a publicity stunt since no close friend or associate of Bush has ever reported him praying or having a "religious moment". It is a little suspicious, but it's a hard one to ever prove. Religion after all is a personal private matter.

Bush knew the religious right were an important part of his base and provided many foot soldiers. Maybe he faked it. His response in 2000 when asked about his religious faith seemed forced and dishonest. He said something like "well if you don't know about it I can't describe it to you", "letting Jesus into your heart". When has Bush ever seemed to sincerely have Jesus in his heart? He serves the very rich, war-mongered, has been greedy, spends all his time raising money for himself, sides with polluters, lies and allies himself with some pretty corrupt people.
