OK then if we're going to have public discussion:

Since we agree that what Sivits was doing was following orders, the next question is were those orders lawful?
What is the culpability of a 20 year old kid in a policy that has degraded our moral authority in Iraq, and really the world? We're going to blame a kid for the policy of the United States government and military? We're gonna hold up the Geneva Conventions and the UCMJ and tell this kid, you (and your lawyer?) should have read and understood the difference between a lawful and an unlawful order?

Look these policies were designed by the Pentagon and cleared by their lawyers. They got tons of lawyers in the Pentagon. This kid hasn't any access to legal opinions. All he can do is make a judgement call based on a minimum of personal experience...really no experience. He was thrust in this situation...a kid!

To me this young man, if following orders, should have received a minor reprimand. I'm angered that there is even an attempt to hang blame on a small group of young soldiers in a very difficult situation...who were doing their job and following orders.

What we are seeing here is process of serving up scapegoats and massive CYA up the chain. Should we expect any less?
