I agree with you. I am in favor of a flat tax as long as it includes all income, capital gains and housing sales as income in the flat tax, with fica all rolled up. That would still be unfair in the classic sense because of course the warren buffett's of the world probably should pay a higher percentage of their income of 20million per year or whatever than joe blow just graduated college kid with 2 young children. But still, a flat tax that incorporates fica expense would at least share the burden of the baby boom retirement and simplify the tax mess too. The only deductions should be mortgage and medical.
