marginmike

I am a longstanding SI member and also enjoy, but don't have an affection for these threads.

I think what SI Dave is doing a good job and his efforts are long overdue. This thread has been nasty for years and went un-policed for a long time. Having someone come on once in awhile and telling some posters that they are walking on thin ice with TOU rules isn't a problem.

Many here including myself, deserve reminders that they are going too far in their posts. If the reminders are not taken serious something needs to be done. A reminder this is Silicon Investor's living room, you are chatting in.

As for your offended friends I doubt they were innocent. If you would like to provide evidence of his harsh punishment. There is plenty of evidence of violations and abusive language here.

>>I tried to engage you in a real discussion a whille back and all I got was the same. So be realistic you started with the sarcasm, Ive just responded in kind to you.

marginmike, all due respect, you came out of the box swinging with your first post to me. And when I took the time to PM you with explanations and background you shrugged it off because the facts presented contradicted your assertions.

Here's a sampling of your rhetoric. I didn't take the time to list the context of all of them, but we know what it was.

>"dave seems many respected posters, and long term contributors hold your cencorship in low esteem."

>"thanks mr Ashcroft!"

>"censorship IMHO"

>"maybee ill get banned for speaking out-ng I heaqrd the did that in Germany in 1939 too"

>"I am pretty close to going elsewhere, the management of SI has become a joke. SI will be a ghost town soon anyway."

>"if they kick me off there wouldnt be anyone else to talk to on SI with any value."

>"why was he banned, mr ashcroft?"

>"trotsky is dead! long live Stalin!!!!!"

>"thanks dad, can I drive the buik tonight?"

>"You seem to careless, as SI turns into a ghost town."

Once again, you couldn't be more wrong. Reversing the path towards "a ghost town" is what this effort is all about. My "affection" for this site extends back practically to day one. I hated to see what had been allowed to happen in recent years, and agreed to fill this role when asked to help set right the path. I've gotten a lot out of the site over the years, and was more than willing to help Bob and Matt reverse the trend and rescue SI from oblivion. I'm doing exactly what I was asked to do by the owners of SI, which includes, among other things, addressing the abusive postings and blatant disregard of terms and spirit of the TOU.

I'm sorry that you and "everyone you know" are offended by that, but that's the way it is. Since the alternatives included the demise of SI, the vocal minority will just have to live with it.

If you want to begin anew, that's great and I'm game as long as you don't expect me, other admins, or the site itself to be a pin cushion.
