There's a flaw in that simplistic "free vs closed societies": the so-called free societies actually feed upon their less fortunate "closed societies", they rest their own freedom on the bondage of others... Hence the blissful freedom of a few somehow stems from the oppression of the many. Therefore a more rational approach would be for us to study not free and closed societies separately but the nexus of their mutual relationships as a whole...
