Cheney avoids politics during FSU commencement speech

fox30online.com

(Tallahassee-AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney steered clear of politics, rousing graduates at Florida State University by naming football coach Bobby Bowden rather than John Kerry.

Five days after he was criticized for attacking Kerry at Westminster College in Missouri, there was no talk today of the 2004 election or President Bush's policies, and the only reference to the war in Iraq was mentioning 25 F-S-U students serving in the Middle East.

Instead, Dick Cheney talked about failing to complete a doctoral program, being asked to leave Yale, not doing so well during an interview with Donald Rumsfeld in the 1960s and still accomplishing things he never expected.

That includes serving as vice president after he thought his days in public office were over.

Meanwhile, First Lady Laura Bush spoke at Miami Dade College.
