I believe the "mountains don't match" defense referred to some of the original Al Jazeera video showing a truck full of corpses, including children.

The US military said explicitly that they believed that video had been shot in Ramadi, 250 miles away.

Turned out, the inhabitants of the desert village are modern-version nomads, who maintain homes both in Ramadi and in the desert village. The clan cemetery is in Ramadi, and yup, that video sure was taken in Ramadi.
