Pentagon spokesman Larry DiRita issued a statement saying, ''If there is some shortfall in what was provided, it was an oversight.'' He was responding to a Time magazine report Sunday that about 2,000 of the report's 6,000 pages submitted to the Senate Armed Services Committee were missing. The report by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba consists of a declassified summary and about 6,000 pages of classified annexes, including statements from witnesses, prison guards and military intelligence officials. The Senate committee has brought several top military officials in for questioning and has pressed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to ensure that the abuse was not the result of official guidance in a quest for intelligence at the expense of humane treatment of prisoners. So far, only Army enlistees are facing punishment. Spc. Jeremy Sivits, 24, pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy to mistreat prisoners, cruelty and dereliction of duty. He was sentenced to one year in a military prison and given a bad-conduct discharge. He agreed to testify against fellow soldiers as part of a deal in which he was prosecuted in a special court-martial, which can impose a maximum sentence of one year. Spc. Charles Graner, 35, the alleged ringleader of a group of guards at Abu Ghraib, Staff Sgt. Ivan Frederick, 37, and Sgt. Javal Davis, 26, were arraigned Wednesday. Pretrial hearings are scheduled in their cases for June 21, when they will enter formal pleas. They face more serious general courts-martial and potentially longer prison terms if found guilty. Spc. Megan Ambuhl, 29, Pfc. Lynndie England, 21, and Spc. Sabrina Harman, 26, have been charged with abusing prisoners but have not been arraigned. England's proceeding may be delayed until November, a month after she is due to give birth. The charges include conspiracy to maltreat prisoners, dereliction of duty for failing to protect the detainees, assault, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators. Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said, ''I'm confident there will be more courts-martial, and it's just not going to be privates and sergeants.''
