Those were good buys. And I suspect it was fundamental research that led you to buy those companies at those prices. So fundamentals do matter.

As for selling too soon, since most tech shares returned to 10/02 lows in March '03, that would have given you a chance to buy again. As you have pointed out before, this market has not rewarded those who have not been willing to trade out of their long positions on rallies. And as much as I believe in investing based on 18 month to three year targets, I have myself been more willing to sell partial positions in stocks that have made a strong run, hard as it is to sell something you think could appreciate another 50%.

As far as the VIX and BDNPX, Gottfried has already pointed out that those numbers need to be seen in context. I think that's a valid observation.
