When you begin with Name Calling, it is obvious that you are intimidated enough that you don't respect your own argument, or you wouldn't find that necessary. I am responding anyway. If you find it necessary to continue the flames without substance, I may change my mind in the future.

We will not just walk away from Iraq. We have a responsibility to struggle with the situation until it is positively (not perfectly) resolved.

My criticism of the current approach is this: The educated and qualified people who know how to get things done were part of the bathist regime. A new government can not succeed without including some of these people in the process. After the fall of Nazi Germany we should have learned that lesson. At that time we found out we had to include some of the old nazis in the process or it wouldn't work.

Iraqis are capable of living in a democratic society. Many of them want it and it is supported in Islamic literature (although not by the authoritarian Muslims). However, the culture has learned to respect powerful regime type dictatorships. They don't really believe ... yet ... that any other kind of power can succeed in their region. So when insurgencies begin to take hold, like the Taleban did in Afghanistan, their fear takes over and we lose some credibility.

They will never accept a govt imposed on them by us that we tell them will fundamentally change them to be like us. One piece that is missing in the formula is credible Islamic leaders who are preaching for democracy.
