ElM, a good friend's children went to Francis Douglas school in New Plymouth and that guy held incommunicado would have been in their third child's year. It's a small school, so he'll be well known there.

He would have been roaming the world having adventure and fun. That's what New Zealanders tend to do. We all have a roaming gene [which is why we all made it to one of the most distant places on Earth].

The USA has a cheek just sticking people in gaol for 3 months, while denying to New Zealand's government that they have him. The USA's idea of human rights leaves a lot to be desired.

It's unwise to go to the USA as they are now so crazy that they just arrest anyone and stick them in a concentration camp, with no trial, no lawyers, no communication, no admitting anything and perhaps with vicious interrogation techniques to go along with the captivity.

The whole Osama/Saddam/Bush thing seems to be a Shakespearian familial feud over oil, money and power which the rest of us get involved in at our peril. The Bush tribe's mateship with the bin Ladens seems to have spilled over into internecine conflict dragging in the rest of us.
