russ, We have to admire Andy Jackson for two reasons if nothing else: 1. He hated his central banker and destroyed The Second Bank of The United States. 2. He threatened to hang his own Vice President, John C. Calhoun. <G>

That's fascinating Russ.

A definite family trait, your ... what would you call it ... "populist tendencies"?

My great grandfather on my father's side was a heavy-drinking RCMP poet nicknamed "Blue" from we think French-speaking Switzerland who spoke arrived in my current native town of Winnipeg, MB and fought in the Riel Rebellion (won't mean that much to Americans, but to the degree that Canada has important historical events, that was one of them).

He spoke fluent Cree and was a "friend to the Indians" on the Alberta plains.

I'd like to think if your Grandpappy had lived in Alberta in the early 20th century, and grabbed a rifle in Alberta to go huntin' himself some banker-types, that he would not have stopped him. ;)
