I am so glad to hear that Whistler is famous. I had been hearing about him all my life, and reading about him in books, and looking at his paintings, and thinking about his quotations, and it is such a relief to hear that he is indeed "famous." I mean, you wouldn't want to think you had paid all that attention to someone who was not famous.

Once Oscar Wilde heard Whistler say something and said, with a certain sad envy, "I wish I had said that."

"You will, Oscar, you will!" said Whistler.
