Western Union was one of the very first companies to offer cell phone service. My bride and I bought our first cell phones from Western Union back in 1984. They were mounted in our cars. The phones were about 2500 to 3500 bucks each back then not including installation. We tried a portable for a weekend; it was mounted in a briefcase...LOL

I still have the phones. They were very nice...made by the same folks that made Johnson CBs.

Regards,
LG

PS: Phone rates in Southern Cal back then were 45 dollars a month for each phone (no free minutes) plus 90 cents a minute peak and 45 cents a minute off peak plus roaming fees and long distance fees. Our phone bills used to be atrocious. The Western Union phones worked great...
