re: The Oscars require that a film be shown in at least a few theaters in NYC and LA so that members of the academy can see it publicly instead of having a private showing.

They also send out screener DVD's; but they are now reluctant to do that because some of the esteemed members of the Academy were selling the DVD's to bootleggers.


John, I know.......many Members of the Academy are broke and need every penny they can get.

In addition, there are some who like to see their films with the little people and see how the little people react. <g>

BTW a couple of times I went to private screenings.....you would not believe how much better the film quality and sound were compared to the reg. movie theaters. I am not sure what made the difference but its like the difference between hidef and reg. tv.
