Major Mark Smith

Amazing how things tie together, isn't it? I posted an article on a Marine action and Moenmac found that one of the grunts was from her home town.

What on earth does "Tet 2004" mean?

June 30, 2004, five weeks from now, the US is transferring full sovereignty to a provisional Iraqi government. The transfer has already begun. As of May 24, almost 30 ministries have been transferred, and transfer is a continuing operation.

On that date, if the Iraqi transitional government asks us to leave, we're pulling out.

That's it. We stay or go at the request of the Iraqi people.

This ain't Vietnam. There is no significan Russian involvement. No significant Chinese involvement. No heavily armed opposing army to fight, just "shoot and scoot" insurgents and jihadis.

The worst fighting recently was in Fallujah, which was calmed down by putting an Iraqi general in charge of an Iraqi army and pulling the Marines out.

The military did an exemplary job, and now it's time for others to do their job.

Congratulations on a job well done.
