Also overlooked is that that shrine, called "Haram-al-Sharif" by the Muslims and the "Temple Mount" by the Jews, is the holiest site in the Jewish religion. For some reason, even though the Israelis control that whole area, they leave the Muslims in charge of that shrine, and the Muslims don't normally allow Jews there, which is why it was such a big deal. -Z
