How would you do that if you could?

Through education.

I would require mandatory lessons starting as early as possible dealing exclusively with stereotyping and its effects. I learned about the effects of stereotyping through a wonderful motivational speaker I met who worked for my children's school district as a Principle.

He is one of the most positive individuals I have ever met and believes that many problems would be solved if we did less stereotyping and judged people individually on what they do rather than on learned or statistical perceptions. I believe that is one of the fundamental precepts of a democracy. It is too bad that more people aren't given the opportunity to learn that simple concept.

And why would you do it if you could?

If there were a study, I think we'd find that stereotyping costs the citizens of our country millions of dollars in lost jobs, litigation, and medical bills as well as the loss of lives through racism, violence spawned by stereotyping and suicide.

I've lost touch with Len since my kids graduated, but I'll never forget his lessons and positive outlook.
