She may not win the competition for votes , but this is my opinion: Diana is a good though callow singer, who will get better as she gets older. But Fantasia is a different animal. She is a true, great artist. Her body movements, for example, are from a place unknown to any other contestant, and Diana, and none of the others, know where that place is. That's not about choreography, and can't be taught in any class. She is an original. Every other singer in the contest, without exception, is a knockoff. Some are very good knockoffs. She can take, as she did last night, two utterly mediocre, deriviative songs and make them seem great, genuine, full of emotion. Summertime is a great song, and she did it perfectly. Many times, she's brought tears to my eyes. This happened the first time I saw her. I knew she was an astonishing artist. I'm proud to say that the first time I posted on SI about Fantasia was in mid Feb., Feb 14 I think. Next, in mid March. The judges have known for a long time, I think. They retained objectivity for the sake of the show, and fairness, to some degree, but they knew. I know Simon did, and he confirmed it last night when he said that he'd wanted to say to her for a long time that there had been, over the world, 70 competitions, and that she was the best artist in all the competitions. And she is. She may not win, nonetheless. The votes are for an American "Idol." She's an unmarried mother who has talked about her baby on the show. She is also not at all mid-America. My guess is that there are a lot of people who won't vote for a single mother who "gets down with the get down" as an American Idol. I'm actually not saying that in a condemnatory way. The contest is for an "idol," not for the greatest pop singer in the country, and people have a perfect right to bring that consideration into play. Not to mention that the governor of Georgia asked everyone in GA to vote for Diane! How dare he! I don't care at all. Fantasia will be the bigger star, and will last forever. Not many singers are capable of filling you with the emotion she is filled with as she sings, and that she conveys with her odd, individual, spontaneous body movements. Talk about soul. I'd go to a Fantasia concert any day. For any other pop singer, I wouldn't cross the street. I have to go now, for several hours. I'm so glad you agree about Fantasia. I voted for her, and I've never voted, or even THOUGHT of voting. No, I didn't vote for Fantasia; I voted for Art. I mean it. The girl is an artist. Sidney! You can see that I took this seriously! I'm an admirer of genius. I thought that Ruben was a wonderful singer, the best after Fantasia, but Fantasia leaves him and everyone else, every single one, in her dust, is what I think.
