This statement I don't agree with. I think there are a number of powerful similarities. Read Quigley's piece, then substitute Germany of the 20's (actually, I think a German/U.K. hybrid is probably more accurate) with the U.S. today, and substitute the U.S. of the 1920's with China and Japan today, and there are some provocative parallels IMO. Of course, there are differences, but the similarities interesting ... and they're not hard to detect.
