"...NOTHING that a citizen can do except have their level of fear raised once again."

I hate to hear you talk like that James. This country is all about what the citizen can do if we raise our level of awareness and accountability.

The courts can't control crime when we all bury our heads in the sand and refuse to get involved. Schools have become mini-social services centers because parents aren't parenting. Now if I believe the discourse on this thread EVERYTHING is Bush. He's accountable for what has happened and what has not, what will happen and what will not happen. Bush gets 300,000,000 million more credit than he deserves.

We all need to stand up and be counted. That is as in taking responsibility. People are afraid. Well they need to get to know one another better. Get involved. Mosques are doing public awareness things to try to aleviate some of the fear. Try going to one or an interfaith meeting. Most campuses have those at least once a month. Raise awareness, then the fears will not be unrealistic. The extremists vs every Arab decendant will be exposed. Some isolated people from the Muslim community may actually see the benefit in being a citizen of the larger community just by increased involvement.

There is a great deal that can be done now to devert tragedy in the future.

On the other hand there is always juicing the fears by spreading conspiracy theories about the US govt that bolster the terrorists resolve.

It comes down to your perception of power and control...Do you have an internal locus of control.... or an external locus of control. If its external, you are right. You have no way to view the world except via a paranoid filter.
