She's not "ripped bodices." Though I can't see you passing that up. ;-)

Dunnett has two large historical series, plus some other works. The series are The Lymond Chronicles and The House of Niccolo, written in that order. However, in historical dates, the second come first. The Niccolo series takes place in 15th century Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Middle East (at least we call it that today.) The Lymond series takes place in 16th century, ditto the geography save it also includes Russia and only portions of Northern Africa.

I started with the Lymond series and by the middle of the first volume was sort of hooked. Somewhere in the second or third volume, checked out of the library, I headed off to Barnes and Nobles to buy the full set in paperback. Had the same experience with the Niccolo series. I'm halfway through it now.

A genuine treat if you like very carefully done historical fiction with devilishly intricate plots. And she's a better story teller than Stephenson.
