The amygdala portion of the brain tends to orient us either forward toward the creative, intuitive, imaginative, logical frontal lobes or backward toward the survival based reptilian brain of fear, anxiety, hostility and self-defense.

In general artists and extremely creative people will be very resistive toward war and power based domination preferring to solve problems with cooperation and creativity, whereas a very large portion of the population who live in fear will prefer to use brute force and strike out in fear.

Someone who has insufficiently activated the frontal lobes will have difficulty being spontaneous, thinking on their feet or emotionally connecting with others. Such a person, largely centered in the reptilian brain often displays a posture more akin to a deer frozen in the headlights and sees things in black and white all based on fear, self-defense, survival and brute force.
