The one thing we can do is stand up for human rights both at home and abroad. Also, we can oppose their blanant wars of imperialism like the recent Attack on Iraq. We can also support alternatives to their economic system by supporting the hemp trade and alternative medicines. There is little one can do in this life, but collectively our little actions add up to something even the wealthy elites can't ignore. That's what the whole environmental movement was about. The wealthy elites tried to ignore it and discredit it for years, and finally people power overwhelmed them in the early 1970s and they were force to make concessions. The same could be said about such things as war and drug prohibition. If enough people stand up in opposition to their policies, the wealthy elites eventually take notice and change their policies. It sometimes takes years or decades, but eventually those policies are changed to accomodate the desires of the public.

If there's one thing I like to see happen in my lifetime it is to see marijuana legalized. What a terrible waste of resources for police to waste their time on arresting people for pot. I was reading an article about some pot protesters arrested in Isreal last month. Like Isreal doesn't have bigger fish to fry than a bunch of potheads?!? Lots of European countries have finally legalized pot, Canada is on it's way to legalization, medical marijuana is finally starting to take root in the U.S. There's no doubt that the elites don't like pot because it threatens their lucrative alcohol and tabacco trades, not to mention the competition for paper/textile fibers and oils that hemp would provide.

What is the status of pot in South Africa? Is it legal or illegal, or perhaps illegal but rarely prosecuted.
