Humans are insecure by nature. I remember being appalled when I discovered how different people's opinions could vary from my own. But, I certainly didn't do anything to try to force them to change their opinions. That is a sign of insecurity. My view on taxes have certainly changed over the years. While I think some taxes are very necessary and even desirable, like gas taxes that pay for road expansion and maintenance, I do think the federal income/payroll taxes have a sinister purpose that most people totally ignore or don't comprehend. I once thought of income taxation as a good thing, because it provide a way to pay for services for the not so fortunate in our society. But, my views have changed. I mean, what better system could be devised to ensure that money is always available to subsidize and further the interests of the super-wealthy than our current federal tax system. The war machine and oil trade couldn't function without taxing the working people of this country. Of course, the rich get hit with taxes too (the price they pay for the benefits our society provides), but the super-rich ones know how to hide their money off-shore and avoid taxes. They are the ones that the tax system is designed to benefit. All the hemming and hawing about our tax structure, be it flat or progressive, is just a dog and pony show for what the real purpose of it is, to ensure the furtherance of the American empire and feed the trough that the super- wealthy feed from.
