What policies specifically created this "prosperity" that you cling to?

One policy and one economic factor.

Policy: Energy conservation instituted during te Carter Administration LOWERED the price of energy on a real dollar basis for years which stopped inflation and allowed larger profit margins for American businesses and not just the multinational corporations.

Economic factor: Computers. First the wholesale replacement of middle managers allowed corporations to slash overhead leading to even more profits and money to invest in research. Second the personal computer (and the phone machine) allowed small businesses to do away with bookkeepers and secretaries and many other expenses.

Governments have the power to screw up an economy (as Bush is doing) but they do not have the power to fix an economy, at least by spending or subsidies. Clinton did have a hand in this economy by ignoring the increasing demand for energy exemplified by wasteful tax breaks on SUVs. I have repeatedly stated this.

My rebuttal was of your assertion that Bush or Conservatives have strengthened the economy. Quite the reverse.

Ignoring energy dependency has been the hallmark of Bush's Admin.

In addition they have allowed Monopolies or near Monopolies to squash innovation in the private sector.
