I nominate Mike Fister for Intel wonderVP. He was the guy behind the itanium and coined 2003 as the "Summer of Servers" for Intel.

Steve, Where do you think Intel went wrong on the Prescott? My guess has been wonderVP Gelsinger in which no one had the balls to tell him the P4 was a POS.

Nothing was really wrong with the Northwood version of P4, IMO. In hindsight, I think we should have just taken that core, shrunk the pipeline somewhat, and enhanced it for lower power.

As for Gelsinger, I think you're being a little hard on him. I have no idea whose bright idea it was to lengthen the Prescott pipeline and make Intel run smack into a brick wall labeled "HEAT," but I doubt that was a decision driven by Gelsinger himself.
