Just in time for the summer re-run season, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a "webisode" Internet parody of the Survivor series, giving visitors to the site at dtriptv.org a chance to vote some of their favorite Republican foes off the island over the next six weeks. The trailer for the animated series shows that the contestants will be President Bush, an unclothed and Frisbee-tossing Dick Cheney, a butterfly-bashing House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Congresswoman Katherine Harris and the commentator Ann Coulter. Architects of the parody, the first interactive feature on a site that Democrats intend to keep going through November, say they hope to generate new buzz in their efforts to oust Republicans this fall as well as sign up potential donors through the registration process that will be required to take part in the voting. Kori Bernards, communications director for the Democratic organization, said the 2004 campaign is demonstrating that a substantial Internet presence is indispensable. "You can't raise money and build activism without a really solid on-line operation," she said. "With DTrip TV we hope to entertain people and also keep them coming back and talking about us." She said the teaser for the first episode, which will be ready for viewing next Thursday, drew about 22,000 page views in the first 24 hours. Republicans have launched web spoofs of their own this year, lampooning John Kerry as an `international man of mystery" and for trying to shed his positions as the cicadas now infesting the Washington area shed their shells.

Your assumptions on what I would like is an oversimplification. My objection was never that Bush dared to use scripture but that he continually mangles Christian theology to justify his imperial ambitions. His quotes make good copy for the more "zealous" of his base who act as if the Book of Revelations mentions Dubya by name as consort to the Archangel Michael. But Gore's quote of Matthew was an appropriate rebuke to the reported actions of soldiers who may have felt inspired by Bush's assertion that God endorses the latest crusade.... "Ameen Saeed al-Sheikh told the Washington Post that he was tortured and ordered to denounce Islam and after his leg was broken one of his torturers started hitting it while ordering him to curse Islam and then, " they ordered me to thank Jesus that I'm alive."
