If it's not doable, then it's not doable, and the issue begins and ends there. Look at Vietnam, The problem with arguing with guys like Hawkeye is that he lives in a neofantasy world where Vietnam WAS doable! Even McNamara says that Vietnam was a huge mistake. But not Hawkeye! He saw Rambo and has a different opinion! The only hope is that guys like him are in the minority (and as the war continues to fail will become an even smaller minority). I think he probably means well, but is so deluded that it's pretty useless arguing with him. When he gets really desperate, he resorts to deflecting and name calling (kind of like his heros do...)

Hawk you ONCE AGAIN fail to make a distinction between, on the one hand, what we WANT the world to be and, on the other hand what we have the moral authority, the power and the ability to ACCOMPLISH in terms of changing the world. Maybe you should be spending more time prostelyzing Islamic militants with your tripe.. Because they obviously don't believe it. They will fail just as we will fail. Sure they will fail, EVENTUALLY... Just as the hardline Shiites are failing in Iran... But how many millions of people will be required to die prior to such a failure coming to pass?? And why do those people have to die, just as millions were required to die during WWII, in order to confront an obvious evil that threatens us all? All the experts knew that Communism would eventually fail.. But millions of innocent had to die before it came to pass.. If it's not doable, then it's not doable, and the issue begins and ends there. And once again, nothing is doable unless someone decides that it is and sets out to prove it... "Reality is nothing more than someone's dream which has come to pass." And you can quote that, if you want.. I own it. Hawk

It's NOT a matter of simply saying "the terrorists or radical Islamics try to use force to do it." They will fail just as we will fail Take a look at places where they succeeded - Iran, Afghanistan, Hizbullah-stan in Southern Lebanon (seen anybody enquire about how the Maronites have been faring lately? see if you can find many left in Lebanon), or almost succeeded - Algeria. Where they came, they came with the gun; where they left, they were expelled by the gun. I do not share your confidence that they all going just going to "fail" with no effort on anybody's part. They can kill millions and wreak havoc in the meantime.
