True. Catch phrases like "democracy" are only useful when the propaganda suits the situtation and propaganda needs. Great observation. I call democracy a "catach phrase" because anyone who truly understand American history over the past 50 years understands that the U.S. only supports democracy when it's convient for us to do so. We hardly stand for the "principle" of democracy, which is what made such utterances regarding our reasons for invading Iraq laughable. Too many times we've been the ones disposing and opposing democracy from the Middle East (Iran) to Europe (Italy, Greece), to Latin America (Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, etc.), and the rest of the world knows it. We're not called the "ugly American" for nothing.

Hell, our democratic institutions in the U.S. are on life support. Our Congress is brought and sold by wealthy interests whom they do their bidding. Like, when was the last time Congress passed a law that helps the average Joe, not the fat cat? The 2000 Presidential debacle is another indication of our strained democracy.

Funny Bush never said anything about making Afghanistan a "mid-east model of democracy".

Perhaps that Afghanistan is not in the Middle East might have just a little to do with this. (duh!)
