Hello Hawk, Hope you are feeling better.

One of the many things I have learned on this board is how both sides successfully support their views with bonafide statistics and references. Thanks to google.
Posters of both "ilks", including me, display such passion, belief and diligence. A while back I suggested that "one of us was being lied to".
It occured to me that Cobalt, Westeria and Lindy thought I was as looney as I thought they were, so somebody was getting bad intell! (Cudos to those who let their critical thinking defrost their brain freeze.) As it turns out there were lies. Many lies.

Dickering over technicalities of law, military history, human behavior, and language fails us in our quest for the best. Old measures don't work. Just look at one: GDP and GNP. How instructive are statistics which are not adjusted for MultiNationals Corporate Addresses, Tax breaks for Foreign production, Bombay Telemarketing and Enron Accounting? It's over, you just witnessed the end of the 20th Century. Clear the ledgers. Mine the Database.

A current situational analysis reveals that Allen Greenspan sets the parameters for Chinese Economic Planning*. How much more power do you need? We are the world, already. Today.
The silver lining is that the incompetence of everything done by this cast of characters (Since BakerBaked the Election) has forced the world to face some big questions. We are living through the clean-up-the-mess-period which always presages great opportunity.
I think we should make a offer to the young arab males drawn to AQ they can't refuse. Let's give them each a laptop with a free, lifetime, wireless, ISP Account. Keeps everybody busy and they can become Financial Planners. The Net brought down the Neocons, let it get BinLaden too.

Hawk, listen to yourself sometimes. I said:

almost every expert has said that terrorism is not dependent upon "state sponsorship.

You answered:

Standing by for you to start listing them so I can compare them to my list of experts who have said that terrorism of the type that threatens nation/states is usually state based (false flag operations), supported, (or tolerated).

So I guess you actually AGREE with my statement that terrorism does not need a state sponsor.

If you need any further disabusement of the disconnect between the Bush implied reality and actual reality, ask yourself which state sponsored the Madrid terrorists who attacked so devastatingly a few short weeks ago.

As far as the doomsday fears that somehow terrorists will defeat the nations of the west, I can't agree. Sure we'll take our hits but we won't collapse in total fear and fall to our knees and beg for mercy. Hopefully we'll get smarter and find ways of confronting the causes of terrorism instead of staying stupid and feeding it by acting aggressively and militarily against entire regions and peoples that haven't asked for our help.

Remember that we don't disagree on the need to deal with terrorism or the fact that terrorism is a major problem, we only disagree on the methods that can successfully mitigate the problem and how to implement those methods effectively without harming principles that have guided this nation for centuries. Pointing out that the problem exists does not validate the use of blunt military force against nation states, and alleging that the problem is immediate and catastrophic doesn't justify escalating counter productive strategies.
