There is what is called "Let us see where we can agree and have a common understanding." That is what Kerry has espoused and the neocons are havinfg a very hard time comprehending that since that is not there in their dictionary. Yep, just like the liberals did for forty years with the Soviet Union. Let's keep detente. Along came a man with cajones, "Tear that wall down, Mr. Gorbachev".
