Would be too much to point out that in one of those wars to destroy communism, the US was fighting for the communists?

The Cold War policy towards communism was containment, not frontal attempts at destruction. Therefore all the wars were proxy wars. But to try to infer that military power was useless and had nothing to do with it, is just silly. If it weren't for America's nuclear umbrella, Western Europe would have followed Eastern Europe into the Warsaw Pact in 1948.
