The first thing Reagan did when he came to power in 1980 was cut alternative energy research by 80%. Also, the Republicans killed the CAFE standards that put pressure on auto makers to up the milage. Those move weren't arbitrarily done. They were calculated moves to ensure that oil dependence would continue for decades (as it has), and to maximize oil company profits. Sick! The U.S. government is not on the little guy's side. It's all about serving the interests of wealth and power.
