I believe the UN officially demonized him long before W. deployed a single troop there.

That makes no sense to me. One thing is not dependant on the other. In addition, I can't understand why you don't think the situation in the Middle East is serious. The world is changing very fast and it has little to do with G. Bush except that he is a convenient target.

"... to disengage from the Middle East."

During the nineties I was in the Saudi talking to a young Turk. He told me that he had grown up watching the change of the Mosques in Turkey. They had previously only been visited by very old conservative men but had recently become jam packed with young radical Turks all accross the country ranting about the Taleban and such. I have checked with other nationalities and found the same report. I am happy that people are becoming more involved and more morally aware...but the reality of world revolutionary radicals has been heating up for decades. That heat is boiling up now and we haven't seen what happens when the lid blows off....yet.

The world economy and culture makes it possible to develop and organize resources almost instantaneously as new goals are set. Burying our heads in the sand would be a huge mistake...

As the Islamic World of the ME and far East wakes up and modernizes we need to be involved and include them as members in the world community. Allowing the old pattern of dictator wannabees to brutalize the regions they can gain control over and define the culture of this milenium is a big mistake. It guarantees that they will be much more formidable enemies as nations instead of pockets of renegade terrorists. But that is what would surely happen if the West disengages.

Like I tried to tell you before dude. It is not an agrarian culture who will go back to rice fields or whatever. The enemy has specific goals of anihilating western society. Disengage...no way. We face them down now and provide the opportunity for a better society to gain strength in that part of the world...or we turn our backs and face them when they are a superpower...by the time the current high school freshmen are seniors.
