well, according to the latest reports, the security forces captured the militants and recovered the hostages, so maybe another bullet dodged for the time being. interestingly, according to the WSJ report the militants immediately freed the Lebanese hostages, telling one woman to go convert to Islam. so they seemed to be making an effort not to indiscriminantly kill Muslims and even non-Muslim Arabs in the attack, perhaps to maintain sympathy in "the street".
