Yes we need to be able to get off oil completely as our #1 energy source/dependency. That is, we need to always have a choice except for various lubricants/plastics/whatever that oil is used for. We will always need some oil, but why fight more wars because we use so much we are dependent on the Arabs who increasingly hate us? The true cost of a gallon of gas must factor in thge war costs and everything else. Now we're probably paying $5 a gallon.

Anyway, for the next 15 years and onward we follow a plan to gradually replace oil. Yes it will take technological breakthroughs and unprecendented cooperation between parties and people, but if say President Kerry and Senate Leader McCain can support it together, then maybe we can get past oil-chemical stooge Delay and get the votes to make it happen.

This will create jobs and gradually wean us off ever being held hostage by the Saudis or whomever. In the meantime maybe the Iraqi supply gives us some insurance against oil boycotts. But dont expect that to last forever.
