"I don't think that Iraq's army would have that level of hope and determination. #reply-17402656"

Well here it is 1 one year on, a growing US troop presence in Iraq, an accelerating casualty rate, and no sign of a drop in hope or determination on the side of the insurgents.

I was right. Iraq's army didn't have that level of hope and determination.

A number of the people we were fighting used to be in Iraq's army but not all of them and even the former soldiers aren't really Iraq's army any more.

Also I don't think the insurgents are doing as well as in Vietnam. So far most of them haven't been pushed to the point where they would have to display the level of determination that the Vietnamese communists have so the jury is still out on that point. I also think their numbers are lower even in comparison to the force against them. The NVA and Viet Cong adder together probably had a more favorable numerical ratio against the US, ARVN, and allied forces, then the insurgents due against American and allied forces in Iraq.

If you want to call me to task for a questionable statement in my post I think the one you quoted was a poor choice. I think it was dead on. The more questionable statement I made was - "I don't think we will have an extended occupation except perhaps at the request of some new government.". I say questionable rather then inaccurate because I included "except perhaps at the request of some new government.", otherwise the statement would be wrong.

You seem to like going back to old posts. How about this one of yours

" I think it's time that we clean out the cesspools where this action originated. We need to topple some religious whacko governments in the near east. I suggest we start with Afghanistan, then move on to Iraq and the others."
