The rightwing have no issues to run on so attacking Kerry, no matter how dishonestly, personally and ridiculously, is really the only thing they can do.

Look at "poor" Bush trying to make campaign speeches. In every speech he must resort to empty feel-good slogans and outright misrepresentations so as to avoid the truth, that on every issue, he has failed and/or lied to us.

He keeps calling Iraq "The War On Terror" for instance. Not to General Zinni and Counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke it wasn't. Even Bush once admitted Saddam had nothing to do with 9-11. But since he has nothing else to run on he's trying to play Mr. Counterterrorism. Actually Bush has made us less safe and squandered enormous resources and human life in the process. The one success he had might be Afghanistan, but that was a 99% bi-partisan move supported by almost every country on earth. even Ralph Nader would have invaded Afghanistan.
