Thanks so much for your answer.

We do have a lot of power surges and that may be an answer to this problem.

Last week I went outside to check on something and left my computer on. When I returned the screen was black and I knew I had left it on. I checked all the cables and they were secure and also DSL modem was lit up. Called my son, usually do when I have a problem, and he asked me if the green light was on to the right of computer. It was not. He thought then we had had a power surge while I was outside. Hit the power button on the front of monitor and sure enough, the screen came back on.

Thanks again. Sometimes it is right in front of you and you just don't see it. I now watch that green light all the time to see that it is always on while I am on my computer.

I am an senior citizen and have learned so much in reading this thread and appreciate all the kind and patient folks that post here.

When I first started using my computer I was so curious about all of it and made some pretty good messes which I usually tried to correct myself. Most times it worked and I learned a lot from just playing around with it.

Thank goodness I read where you said there were no dumb questions here.
