I wouldn't have a problem with such a proposal, although it pretty evident that family obligations would proclude it actually being workable.

However, doesn't volunteer service in the communities also meet your suggestion?

And I know that many couples, upon retirement, will sometimes join the Peace Corps in order to take their lifelong experience and share it with others in various countries.

I'm a VERY BIG believer in the Peace Corps.. Absolutely invaluable.
