No doubt there are many who enlisted purely for the opportunity. But you are sadly discounting the motivation of many, I suspect the vast majority, of the volunteer military.

Maybe Q., but that doesn't account for why there are virtually no "motivated" Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton students or graduates, or sons and daughters of presidents, senators and congressmen who are "volunteering." Is it that they don't feel as patriotic as those with less advantages in life? Or is that they are just as patriotic but not as needy?

If Saudia Arabia's oil production stopped the result would be akin to the 1930's depression.

Will you stop with this silliness. The price of oil would go up, is all. Not the end of the world, especially for the rich.

What is a concern is that the oil money would be used for nefarious purposes.

I am saying that if necessary the oil consuming nations will occupy Saudia Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, etc in order to protect oil export facilities.

A short term solution at best. The ME is nearing capacity and world demand is growing....and what is our answer...ANWAR...if we only had Alaskan oil our troubles would be gone.

If our national security is a concern...and if our nation's economy is a concern....we need a significant mobilization of resources that can minimize the impact of the coming oil crisis. If we wait for the magical market and higher prices it will be too late.
