There's a significant percentage of Britons who are always unhappy - shows up in these surveys over a period of decades. More so than most other countries.

Many sociologists think the lousy weather is part of it, along with knowledge of other English speaking people enjoying better weather and other things....

My view is warped because I'm in Silicon Valley, but there are numbers of Brits with talents ranging from above average to genius level who have done very well here - even a modest success (+0.4 sigma) here is better & easier than a pretty good success (+1.5 sigma ) in the UK.

yeah, there are at 5000-6000 Britons now making a living by teaching English in China.
