It knocked me for a loop, because of the exact same reasons you outlined in your post and it reminded me, once again, of how our soldiers are sometimes abused by those in power who stand to lose, or gain, by manipulating the truth.

Well, I'll take your word for it.. I have a feeling there will be pressure (and should be) upon the general staff to disclose that 15-6 investigation surrounding Tillman's death.

But I will say that, even if actually under friendly fire, his medal would be merited by any actions on his part that met the criteria, since he obviously had no idea who was shooting at him.

You and I know that CYA is definitely as present in the military as it is in civilian life. But the costs of making mistakes in combat generally lead to someone being killed or injured.

And I can just imagine the cover stories those platoon and company commander(s) were scrambling to create when they discovered that it was Tillman who was killed. It would certainly be something that would cause severe scrutiny of their actions and orders.
