Yes, we're lucky and grateful that you fight for us, but shitting on people who never saw combat doesn't make sense. It's an "us vs. them" mentality that's completely unnecessary, IMO.

Listen, I like both of you, so I'm kind of in the middle of this..

It might have sounded as if UW was "sh*tting" on those who have never felt combat, but I guess I'm unwilling to believe that's what he actually meant.

I've spoken with other combat vets who've also made that comment about being shot at making you recognize just how alive you are (and that you want to stay that way)..

I once met a guy who felt that "hunting" another man was an experience that only hunting Grizzlies might compare to, and he relished it. I actually thought that was rather sick, even though I could understand the adrenaline rush it gave him...

And maybe that's where we need to draw the dividing line.. smack dab between those who recognize that their near death experience, or the death of others in preserving their lives, makes them responsible for ensuring the rest of their life has meaning and is not wasted.

For the rest, a near death experience might be a sense of personal endorphin high in having "cheated the reaper" one more time. A "fix" they almost need in order to bring meaning to their lives and that nears the level of glamorizing human combat (which is hardly glamorous).

I'll leave it to UW to clarify where he stands.

Either way, this argument disturbs me since I think folks might be talking past one another and causing a lot of personal hurt in the process.
